About the Lodge of Marksmen

"The Lodge was formed primarily for Brethren with the qualification of Marksman. The Committee may also consider to become members Brethren and Gentlemen whose integrity and discipline, similar to those required of a Marksman, renders their of the Masonic fraternity appropriate". This statement which concerns membership qualifications of this Lodge, took its origins from a time when the Masonic Rifle and Pistol Association existed. The perception of the new Lodge to embrace the precepts of integrity as portrayed by Marksmen came later. The aim was to embrace those Brethren and Gentlemen whose interests and hobbies coincided with their own. These people, provided they also qualified under the rules of the Craft, would come from a variety of occupations and geographical locations, provided the absolute requirement for any new Lodge, which is a continued new and growing membership'. And so it was. The proposal for a new Lodge, to be called ‑ " Lodge of Marksmen" was first put to V. W. Bro. Revd. David Ward, who enthusiastically endorsed it, and, later when put to the Provincial Grand Master, Rt. W. Bro. Ian Bruce, it was approved, In no time at all, twenty eight Founders had agreed to Petition for a Warrant of Consecration. Meetings were held and it was agreed that although the Lodge should be Warranted under the Province of Norfolk, membership could be expected from far and wide. Indeed the address list embraces all of East Anglia, North and South London and the Midlands. There being a requirement that all new Lodges should be 'sponsored' by an existing Lodge, the Old Haileyburian and I.S.C Lodge, No. 3912, a London Lodge agreed to act. On the 7th June 2001 several Founding Brethren took their Petition to a meeting of that Lodge held at the Thistle Hotel, Bloomsbury Way, London where it was signed by the Master and Wardens. The Lodge was consecrated in March 2002. In June 2004 we Initiated 6 candidates. It has gone from strength to strength and have our own initiates holding the Principal offices.
