King's Lynn Masonic Suite

Duke's Head Hotel,
King's Lynn,
Norfolk

Map

This Temple is purpose built as such, but in the Duke's Head Hotel, Tuesday Market, King's Lynn. A masonic Lodge has met in this building since 1729, and it is entered from the hotel itself.

The premises are famous for having the then Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII, conduct masonic ceremonies there in the latter part of the 19th Century.

Prior to being a hotel, it was the private residence of a family named Turner, one of whom, a Captain Turner, was the first Master of the first Lodge to meet in King's Lynn - The Duke's Head Lodge, which came into being in 1729 and ceased to work in 1786.

The Temple has a very beautiful porchway, probably unique in England, at the entrance, and some of the furniture is either Chippendale or Sheraton. At the conclusion of meetings, the room is left as it stands, complete with all its furniture.

There is plenty of parking in the immediate vicinity, but it is a fee paying public car park which is approached by a series of one way streets which can be somewhat confusing to the newcomer.
