Dereham

Map

Originally a Non Conformist Chapel, the building was offered to Sondes Lodge in 1893, on a rental basis. The offer was accepted and alterations were carried out at a cost of £125. The first meeting of the Lodge was held in these premises on 26th April 1893, in the prescence of the then PGM, RW Bro. Hamon le Strange. The Lodge was given the opportunity to purchase in 1919, for £320, which was accepted. Lodge funds were used as far as possible, plus shares at £5 each being offered to the 48 members.

The hall was used for other purposes as well as masonic ones until 1926, when it was agreed that it should be used for masonic purposes only. The outstanding debt was cleared by 1938, when alterations were made; cloakrooms were added and a new staircase was installewd, together with an electric heating system. The oak benches in the Temple were provided at the end of the Second World War from the proceeds of Peace Thanksgiving Fund. Other furniture has been provided over the years, together with a complete redecoration and the addition of a new doulble pannelled ceiling.

There are no dining facilities. Parking is available locally.
